Saltwater intrusion – A plight for Mekong Delta people
This year’s dry season has seen a complex and severe drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta. Saltwater has intruded deeply into the inland areas, seriously affecting agricultural production and the people’s daily lives, especially in coastal areas and at the downstream end of freshwater conversion projects.
In Go Cong Dong district, Tien Giang province, the situation of drought and saltwater intrusion is extremely harsh. The area’s canal systems, ponds, and water reservoirs have dried up. Due to saline contamination, the centralized water supply system cannot meet drinking and daily use demands.
Saltwater intrusion affects crops’ irrigation and makes freshwater scarce for daily use. People here, especially those in remote areas, struggle to find freshwater, sometimes buying expensive water.
KLC Group joins hands with the people to overcome difficulties
In response to this urgent situation, the Leadership of KLC Group, in collaboration with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Go Cong Dong district, donated 10 water tanks to the local people to help them have clean water storage equipment and stabilize their lives amidst climate change, drought, and increasingly severe saltwater intrusion.
Each water tank has a capacity of 3,000 liters, designed with durable LLDPE plastic material, ensuring water safety and sanitation.
Mr. Lê Thanh Phong – Representative of KLC Group’s Leadership, shared, “Alongside our business activities, KLC Group is always aware of its responsibility to the community through volunteer activities, timely support to help people overcome difficult periods, and contribute to building a better society. Upon hearing about the severe saltwater intrusion affecting the lives of people in the Mekong Delta this time, KLC Group quickly contributed by donating 10 large water tanks, hoping to assist households in Gò Công Đông in solving their water scarcity issues, helping everyone stabilize their lives and feel secure in production.”
Receiving support from KLC Group, the people of Gò Công Đông are deeply touched. They expressed that this practical gift will help them alleviate some of the difficulties in water scarcity, especially during the current severe saltwater intrusion period.
KLC Group’s actions demonstrate the spirit of solidarity and social responsibility of KLC people. KLC Group always accompanies the community, assisting people with difficulties, especially during natural disasters.
With the cooperation of businesses, social organizations, and the community, the people of the Mekong Delta will have the motivation to overcome this difficult period and stabilize their lives soon.
